2009 Maine Chapter President's Message

Welcome to the Maine Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. Our web site provides you with up-to-date information on officers, committees serving the chapter, activities ranging from business meetings and educational offerings, and a member directory allowing you to locate a highly qualified member in your area of interest in the State of Maine.

The Appraisal Institute is an international association of professional real estate appraisers, with over 25,000 members in 92 Chapters. The Maine Chapter has 135 members located throughout the state who practice residential and commercial real estate appraisal. Many of the chapters’ members have also received the prestigious SRA (residential) and/or MAI (commercial) designations of the Appraisal Institute. Designated members are recognized industry-wide as having demonstrated fundamental and extensive training, education and experience. These individuals are also required to enhance their skills and depth of knowledge by completing more continuing education than required by current state license law.

For clients, the members of the Maine Chapter represent the most knowledgeable real estate appraisers and consultants in the state. Their areas of practice range from residential and commercial/industrial appraisal and consulting to specialty property expertise, such as forestry valuation, eminent domain and litigation. All appraisers must practice under the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice; however Maine Chapter members voluntarily adhere to the strong ethics of the Code of Professional Ethics and Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice of the Appraisal Institute. This insures that the services you receive are provided in an ethical, independent, and professional manner. Please consult our member directory to locate an appraiser. In addition, our strong network of members can also provide you with solid referrals to appraisers who can provide you the answers to your real estate questions.

For non-member appraisers you have come to the right place. Please explore our website as it provides information on joining the Appraisal Institute and the Maine Chapter, educational offerings, business meetings, and the directory of members who can be a resource in your appraisal career. Please consider the many benefits of membership in the Maine Chapter which is both personally and professional rewarding. I also invite you to attend any of the Maine Chapter business meetings. If you should have any questions please contact me.

For members please review the information on the site for our 2009 list of officers, committees, and education and meeting schedule. If there is something you are looking for which is not listed please contact me.

I hope to see you in 2009.

Respectfully,

Robert B. Lynch, SRA
